Longhorned Borer Beetle
Dear Rich,
The Sugar Maple Borer is a much larger and even more colorful Beetle. Your individual is also a member of the Longhorned Borer Beetle family Cerambycidae, and we believe we have identified it as Clytus ruricola, a species with no common name, thanks to images on BugGuide. According to BugGuide: “Larvae in decaying hardwoods, esp. maple (Acer)” so it is theoretically a “Maple Borer.”
